It's all true!

An engineer accidentally removed 700GB of mail data belong to f9/plusnet customers.

What's that feeling? It's the feeling that, thank god, I am not to blame.

You can't help but feel sorry for the poor engineer involved..... and kudos to PlusNet for being upfront about what happened.

699Gb of that would have been spam anyway.

Priceless!

-net wouldn't have admitted to this unless they absolutely had to. What caused them to make the announcement I have no idea but I will be surprised if all is restored to normal!

Excellent stuff ... not for the users involved but I do like to see this ISP suffer!

Oops. Another engineer hits the contractor lists.

When I first started freelancing (mid 1980s) on my first day I inadvertently zapped 50k of source code. Now back then 50k of sourcecode usually equated to a working system. It was on a network drive and there was all sorts of work going on which meant that there was no way of getting it back.

I was allowed to believe that there was no backup for 10 minutes....

It was the start of a good relationship; I still do contracts for the organisation concerned to this day. But by 'eck, it were a long 10 minutes.

I used to employ a guy that used to praise plusnet daily, I couldn't understand it. Then i found out he was using the 50p/month referal thing, this just adds to my concerns about their services, I'd like to support a local company if they get their act together.

That's no worse than the web designer who left the "delete this page" links on the pages went they went live (sort've proprietary CMS system), and when the site was referenced by the search engine spiders (which of course follow every link) the entire site was wiped.

Bet that was a long ten minutes for him, too!

From what I've heard, your missing e-mails are currently in the hands of a data recovery company... you may yet see them again.

Hmm.. /me checks his inbox..

We went through a similar scenario whereby over 320Gb worth of data was deleted after the RAID configurations were altered by a dim-wit. We had to send the RAID server to data recovery lab and we got each and every single bite of data at a cost of #2300. I would advise you not to carry out a DIY on your drive unless you are capable of handling the shocking news of permenant loss of data. i would recommend calling a professional recovery company. i have tried unirecovery.co.uk
