Messenger seems to have re-booted itself overnight on my PC....

With regard to that error code, just check that your date and time on your PC are correct (to within a few hours, at least). I have had weird error messages come back from MSN due to the date / time on the client PC being very wrong.

* This error usually occurs because there are problems on the MSN Messenger servers. Check the .NET Messenger Service status to see if this is the case. If there are problems, wait until they are over and do not try to fix anything on your computer.
* It can also be the case that one of the .dll files MSN Messenger needs is not properly registered. Registering a .dll file will allow Windows to locate the file when MSN Messenger needs it.
To resolve it, you can download this file and run it (double-click the downloaded file). It will register all .dll files required by MSN Messenger.

If you prefer, you can also type the following command yourself to register the missing dll file that causes this error

First open a run window by clicking start, then run. Now, type the following command and press enter:

regsvr32 softpub.dll
