Not strictly speaking, companies are not legally obliged to give you time off, only if you are 'at risk'

Yep, I'd go for doctors appointment. If you say dentist they will want to know why you didn't give them advanced warning.

Just approach your boss/manager first thing tomorrow morning, and say you are very sorry, but you've got a doctors appointment at 11am, and you realise it's bad timing but it was the only time they could offer you, and you really do need to go. If your manager probes further and wants to know what's wrong, I'd go for some lovely woman's problem. Cystitis/bladder infection is always a cracker cause it can come on at a moment's notice and cause a lot of problems, but there's no obvious symptoms. Just make sure you pop to the loo quite a lot to make it look real! Then offer to work late to make up the time, and you should be fine.

Good luck at the interview!

Lets hope your future employer isn't reading this thread! Wouldnt it be better to say that an "emergency" has arose and plead for a short notice half day holiday? Or offer to work extra to make the time up.

Phone up and just say "womens troubles"

if going on sick make sure you have 2 days off to make it look convincing

Ask for an extended lunch, plead your case.. Say your doing comething important, or do like i did, take a niacin tablet and they let you go home..(it made me dizzy and unable to breathe) Well, its still gets you outta work!
