Ive been going boxing at this gym for a few months now. Its a very good work out & the lads & trainers are great. Always friendly.
Some very talented boxers there, when you say you phoned and glyn was at liverpool, he was with one of the lads and it was on skysports1 on Friday night.

I'm calling in there tomorrow night (Wednesday) to have a look around and aiming to start in the next few days.
I've not done boxing before, just been working out in the gym, so looking to increase my fitness further and also learn to box.
I'm looking forward to it.

I went there tonight.
Very good workout. We did the circuit training with the vomit session in brackets on the timetable and it was hard but very rewarding.
They seem like a friendly bunch there and most were fitter than me.
I've been going to the gym for a couple of years now and this was a shock to the system, much more intense. Towards the end I was starting to fade, but I will be back there on Wednesday.
I am going to keep doing the circuit training and hoping to also get some sparring done eventually.
Were you in there tonight?

Just got back from the 'Vomit' session tonight and loving it
If you want to give it a try then get yourself to Sheffield Boxing Centre, they are excellent. Very friendly and knowledgable and they WILL work you hard.
100% recommended

Easy Dave ,
First bit of advice. Stay away from the gyms that are really into the ABA scene!
Youre nearly 30 and they wont give you a look in , youre simply a "rent payer" who just uses the bags as far as they can see.
Young prospects get all the time of the coaches over 25's are considered a waste of time unless theyre already well into the Amateur rankings.
Try Wellington street boxing gym in town. I cant speak for the one on the corner but the one next door to it is great!!!
Steve has time for everyone even if youre in your 50's (which one guy is!) .
See you there Dave, maybe have a spar with you while your there for old times sake?
Farhad

I'm 27 and until I went to Sheffield Boxing Centre I'd never boxed in my life but they still give me their full attention.
The sessions are really motivational and everyone gets the same level of attention, if you want to test this just try slacking off for a second and watch how fast Glyn is on top of you
I can't speak for the other gyms in Sheffield as I've not tried them and like I said I am new to boxing, but I do know that this place has made me feel very welcome and is a lot of fun. There are people off all ages and ability training here and I've yet to see anyone come and not get the same professional level of attention that we all enjoy while training.

Thanks for the advice lala and Farad. I'm going to wander up to Wellington street this afternoon and try my hand in there. Either one - whichevery is open.
I also want to get out to have a go at shef boxing cnetre too. I'm going to try to get out there next week some time, when would you recomend LaLa?
I've just read a book called 'against the ropes' its all about sheffield boxing, ingle, Nas and bomber Graham. Real good, easy read. Mentions loadsa places around town that I know to! Anyone else heard/read it?

I think quite a few people have been reading this thread, it was very busy last night
The time you go on depends on what you want to do. If you want to do some bag work and increase your fitness then Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights 7pm while 8pm are the time to go. If you want to spar then pretty much any day from 3.30pm until 7pm is the time to go.
Glyn, the trainer here, used to train under Brendan Ingle along with Naz and Bomber Graham, so he certainly knows his stuff. (saw you mention them in your post)

Yes they are. The one i go to on wellington street thats the one next to the print works (not the one on the corner) definitely do. There is a girl who is a barrister called Ala Ali who boxes competitively for the gym.
Im sure the other two do as well , cant comment at the moment but Im pretty certain they are all equal opportunities.

Yes for Sheffield Boxing Centre too. All the classes I attend are mixed and there's a good number of women that attend.
They also do women only sessions on other nights, can't remember which nights but if you call in they can give you a printed time table with all the details on.

Any thoughts on this place or recommendations for anywhere?
I've never boxed before but use the gym 4-5 nights a week and would like to add boxing as a way to boost my fitness as well as learn how to box to keep it interesting (the pad work, bag work and sparring looks quite fun).

I used to go to the sheffield boxing centre 3 or 4 times a week and have never been as fit as i was when i trained there. The trainers are all excellent and the atmosphere is great there. Go down and you'll find out for yourself.

Thanks diamond890, I suspect you've only read the first page or so on this thread because I've been going there for a good few weeks now

For the one next to the one on the corner , the time are as follows:
MONDAY & WEDNESDAY 5-6PM
TUESDAY &THURSDAY 6-7PM
FRIDAY = 3PM ( SPARRING SESSION)
SATURDAY = 11AM
All classes have good atmosphere.
The saturday one is the best for beginners as its not as hard as the rest.
I actually attend the saturday one for that reason .
Thats right. Im a slacker.
You will be more than welcome to look around.
The trainers are Mark (used to box for the army) and Steve Stocks who used to Box Amateur for Croft house and PRO for Brendan Ingle.
Both guys are great!!!
