Although Im ashamed to admit it, I did attend Newfield school in the lates 90s....it was a bad school then, and from what I hear, it's even worse now!! If I had a choice, I wouldn't send my kids there!! Maybe I just had a bad experience (I was never picked on or anything...I even managed to get good exam results) but in my opinion kids should go to school to learn, not spend half their time listening to the disruptives (who are in their majority), abuse the teachers!!!
In my opinion...if your child is willing to learn (but no too willing, as to get bullied), he/she should get ok (not outstanding) exam results. But if he/she is already hanging out with the wrong crowd/displaying signs that they could be a tearaway in the making, then keep them well clear (especially now that Mr Poore - the only teacher who could strike fear into such kids - has left)!!
Must admit when i attended (some time ago) the kids were streamed into classess depending on ability, and as you can gather all the disruptive kids finished up in the same 2 classes. This was great for kids who wanted to get on and learn, and lessons were not disruptive (in our classes at least). You just had to keep your head down after school and during breaktime etc to avoid the trouble causers
if this isnt true then can u tell me why meadowhead school banned the kids from going out of school on there breaks because the newfield kids used to wait on meadowhead and pickfights and why kids that left years ago still drive around picking fights and beating kids up .Newfield are well known for this so i consider my facts to be right.
But not every pupil-

I went to Newfield (I'm 19 now) and yeah, I hated it then and I hear it's got worse. the 'pinball' thing doesn't suprise me at all either..inbetween lessons is a total stampeed and probably a massive fire hazzard. Don't send your kids there is all I can say.
I think the squabble earlier in this thread between what seemed to be parents of kids who go to that school summed it up, (you lot sound like dingles)...the kids are bad as
1) the parents are illiterate
2) are immature
3) are thick as pig****
...and the one who said Newfield was like a prison as they had fences around it....you moron, thats to stop the little ******** from getting out and causing trouble in the local vicinity..
The school may be crap but its the parents fault for not bringing their kids up right...Gleadless used to be a decent area, it sounds like it has become a complete ****hole...the Ofsted report says it all about Newfield...send yer kids there at your peril

Actually, no they're not, have a look at the Ofsted reports for some of the others in Sheffield. Usually if the overwhelming majority of kids come from reasonable homes with responsible and interested parents, where education is valued, and there are things like books available, then the lessons are less disrupted and everyone benefits. This tends to be the case in higher income areas, as the parents usually have had a higher level of education, and realise the value of it so encourage their children. Sometimes though there are children who achieve academic success, often against the odds, at poorer performing schools.
I agree with yer_get_meh about parents' responsibility - what chance do teachers have when faced with loads of kids whose parents have never taught them to behave in a reasonable manner?

My daughter is at Newfield just as my older daughter went there.
They have had problems, apparently the new headteacher left for other reasons than we were told.
My daughter has received endless support and has a brilliant social life with her school mates. She achieves straight a's, attendance is 100%, and she loves school. She has had problems as all kids do but they have always been dealt with very swiftly. Bullying is not tolerated and the school will call the police if there is an ongoing threat to anyone.
The report concerns me, as does the fact that teachers are leaving quite regularly, but I think the school needs a chance. The fence was put up for pupils protection as there had been reports of children being approached by "unsavoury" characters, and all parents were informed of it before hand.
My daughter takes her GCSE's next year and I wouldn't let her stay if I thought she would have any problems.
those fences are a brilliant idea. did you know that some kids were going up to the school on bikes with pellet guns!! should have been done years ago. only thing that school has done right. my son goes there and I rue the day I ever let him. he is a very bright lad but the school is terrible. uniforms a joke. we kitted him out and make sure he wears it but it seems the school don't enforce it. is a joke school. no morals taught no respect taught. if your child on a school team or has a social worker, your laughing. My son does really well but only cos we keep him on the ball the school do nothing to help him. we have had a few occasions where we had words with the headmaster cos our lad was getting bit talkative in classes and messing around, but fell on deaf ears. we had to come down hard on our son to stop it.
worse school in sheffield.
why dont you move your son then you had enough time to do so
