Apology over United 'pigs' jibe.. former Lord Mayor of Sheffield has apologised after inadvertently sending rude comments about Sheffield United Football Club to his entire council.
Sheffield Wednesday fan Councillor Peter Price was replying to an e-mail from the city council's press office about the club's open top bus tour.
In it he referred to the club as animals and said their "pig muck" would have to be cleaned up after the tour.
But instead of replying to the press office he clicked 'reply to all'.
Responding to details of United's city parade on 3 May to celebrate the club's Premiership promotion, Mr Price wrote: "The RSPCA will be pleased to see the special measures being introduced when animals are being transported through the streets of Sheffield."
He also said the council would need its waste collection company to "follow them to collect all the pig muck".
A spokesman for Sheffield United supporter's club said Mr Price should consider his position.
I'm sorry it has upset some people
Councillor Peter Price
"I know it's not earth-shattering but I still think it's very disappointing from a person in his position," he said.
Banter continues
Mr Price later apologised and said his comments were not meant to be offensive.
"I'm sorry it has upset some people, particularly the people at Sheffield United because I'm delighted really that they've got promoted," he said.
"I hope also that we (Sheffield Wednesday) get promoted as well because I think the region would benefit from two Premiership sides, but the banter will continue."
