Speaking of veggies eating out - are there any eateries in Sheff where you can have Quorn on the menu? The only place that used to do it was Wimpy (although there isn't one in Sheff), and then McD started it, but are there are proper restaurants etc? I'm not the biggest fan of tofu as it just doesn't absorb the flavour of things like Quorn does.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'd be careful of eating in Wimpy, last time I went in one and asked about their veggie burgers, although they are veggie they had been cooked in animal fat

I *do* have a friend called Quorn  but in this case I meant the food
antisocial, Yeah I always have to worry about that at the chippy aswell, because some places fry the potatos in beef fat etc.

Mcdonalds have stopped doing their very nice quorn burger
Can't think of anywhere off the top of my head that does it. However if you go to candytown at the bottom of london road they have vegtarien duck (made of soya i think) and some very nice veggie set menus.
Wetherspoons 5 bean chilli is pretty good too

not quorn specifically, but kumquat maes is apparently a fantastic veggie restaurant.
ive never eaten there, but there have been loads of good things said about it on here.
failing that, the leek and caerphilly cheese burgers at the museum (orchard square) are rather yummy.

ps. was in leeds at the weekend and went to the maccie d's next to harvey nicks (wasnt feeling that flush dahling! lol) and they didnt serve the quorn burgers- rubbish!

Its made of pure gluten, it is very nice! But i dont think it is very good for you, i wouldnt have it too often.

why Quorn? In my experience its mainly bought by non-veggies to give to veggies that they're not really sure what they should give them...
(I'm suure 95% of Linda McCartney's meals were bought by parents who didnt know what to give their troublesome teenage veggie daughter!)

Why Quorn? Because it's the best meat substitute that I've found (and I've been vegetarian for about 13 years), nothing else even comes close. You can buy it in pieces, or fillets, or as mince - and it completely absorbs the flavour of whatever you put with it - if you're making a stir-fry it soaks up sweet and sour sauce for example, or as mince in a veggie lasagne or spag bol, or in enchiladas. I'm just really surprised that restaurants don't use it.

have to admit i agree and i'm a carnivore through & through.
she who used to be obeyed is contemplating removing meat from her diet in preference to Quorn.
although i personally have some reservations as to the living conditions & treatment of said Quorn's.

Hi
I also think it's wierd that most restaurants don't use Quorn, I would quite like to set up a veggie fast food place using Quorn and other meat alternatives- I think it would do quite well. There already is one in Manchester in the Arndale Centre, the hotdogs are great!

Does anyone have any decent quorn recipes, coz everytime I make it, it turns out either bland... or so firey (and too flavoured) it blows the roof of me gob off. I can't seem to find a balance. I am a actually very good in the kitchen, but quorn is a toughy I have yet to master.

Nice quorn recipe - stir-fry it with your choice of veg (personally: peppers, mange tout, red onion, asparagus, mushrooms, baby corn) and marinade with chilli, coriander, garlic, a small amount of ginger, lemon grass (i always use either fresh or jar-based herbs and spices, not dried... keeps it 'moist') and the juice of a lime (or multiple limes depending on number you are feeding). Serve with rice. Is kind of thai-like.
Never tried adding coconut milk but that might work?
Or of course quorn also does well in bolognaise, curry, chilli etc.
