Does anyone know if there are any plans to demolish Saville House as part of the Wicker re-development?

Unfortunately not, I think they bought it! In the original plans it was the only thing they planned on not demolishing.

I might be getting confused. I am talking about the one nearly opposite the Mangla.

It's still very much in use AFAIK. I understand the owner put in for planning permission for flats a few years back - it would have lovely riverside views etc. He got turned down because that side of the Wicker Arches isn't "zoned" as residential. I'd be spitting feathers if I were him especially with all the other blocks going up along the river at the moment and the similar refusal that was overturned for the current massive developments on the "industrial"-zoned side of West Bar.
I guess he's quite happy with the rental income (plus the income from having the phone aerials on the roof) and will wait for the cracks in the floors to become worryingly big before doing anything.

What's Mangla? I thought you were referring to Saville House on Saville Street.

Yea, it was me that was wrong, I was thinking of the eye sore on Spital hill that they were going to save but demolish the rest!

The building has South Yorkshire Police on one floor, Business Link on another and Sheffield Chamber Of Commerce and Industry on another.
Its lovely inside, spent millions on it!
Don't think it'll be knocked down in the near future.

I think they mean the one further up towards the Arches, opposite Pentagon. It is indeed a hideous monstrosity, along with the Hole in the Wall pub and the timber yard. However, there were some yellow-jacketed blokes poking about in the timber yard the other day, looking official... maybe checking out how much dynamite will be needed!

Are you talking about the really ugly old brown building that's about 6-10 storeys high? It's after the Wicker Arches as you go out of town, and I think it lies between Spital Hill and Saville Street. From my flat I've got a view towards Meadowhall, including Don Valley stadium and the Arena, but this ugly old block is right in the middle of it.

The building that you are referring to is Albion House. Saville House is further up Saville Street, nearer to the Wicker Arches.

I think that building is owned by a local businessman who wanted to do something with it, but got the plans rejected.

HSBC had a lot to do with Saville House as a storage facility, but I think they've finished in there so it could be ripe for knock down/redevelopment

I think Jimmy Saville should buy it, do it up and live in it. Bring his dead mothers garments too.
