I have a huge old whisky bottle with loads of 2p, 1p and 5ps in it and need to get them changed!
I cant change them at the bank coz they only change about 6 bags at a time.
Ive used a machine at Asda before that you just put the money in, it counts it, prints you a recipet and you take that to a checkout in exchange for your money.
Does anybody know if there is one of these machines near hillsboro area as I dont fancy lugging it all the way to Asda?

The only places I've seen them are at Sainsbury's at Crystal Peaks and Asda at Handsworth. Never seen one near Hillsborough.

get a stack of cash bags n count out the various denominations - it's worth the effort*
An average whiskey bottle will hold approx £300 when full of copper.
If you take the bags to your bank they'll weigh them in & give you the cash equivallent in change.
If you use the auto counting machines in the supermarket - *they keep a percentage of your stash!

Go and pay it in to your bank account. That way they cannot refuse you the lot at one go!

Try another bank. Never been stopped on how many bags I have taken in before and we usually take in at least 50 bags of change once a year when our change jar is full.
Doesn't make us popular with the cashier.
Though we do pay it into our account and not exchange it for notes over the counter - does that make a difference?

It shouldn't do unless you're not a customer of the bank.

LOL. I knew it was happening, hadn't realised it had actually gone! I'm just pleased I managed my aim of a full calendar year with no visit to Meadowhell (16 months and counting now).

Everytime Ive been in Halifax theyve said I can only change 6 bags so Ive given up on them and Barclays only let me change same sort of ammount coz Im not changing it for a business. I hold accounts at both banks also! Imust go in when they are having bad days or something but they always do this to me

Just pay it in to your account and then go and take it out from the hole in the wall! They can't stop you making a deposit!

Halifax claim to be a bank, but they don't work like a proper bank, so you can't change money, can't pay bills etc.
Barclays should accept any amount of coin for credit to an account, provided it is properly bagged. It's best if you can avoid lunch times though as these are the busiest period.

I think most banks have this sort of policy now. If you're a business customer you can take in as much change as you like, but personal customers are limited to a few bags. And they can stop you paying money into your account - it's their bank and nobody can force them to accept a deposit if they don't want to!
What I'd do is go in with all your change bagged up (if you can carry it) and point out to the cashier that if he/she will only accept 6 bags at a time, you will then rejoin the queue to deposit another 6 and so on. In the end it will waste more of their time than if they just accept it all in one go and fill out only one lot of paperwork.
