Just tarted up one of my classic Fiesta with a new stereo CD/MP3 system. Just wondering if it will now be targeted by the opportunist wandering Sheffield car stereo thieves...
it has a removeable front panel of course, revealing a flashing red LED base unit only. Base unit is locked into the space and needs a key to remove it...

Relatively large rear parcel shelf speakers make it look much meatier than it actually is......

Do people try and nick base units without the front panel control unit??? The control panel costs as much for a replacement as the actual system, so would a car thief go for this??

Thought about buying one of those cheap nasty 'fake' front panels that clip on and make unit look like knackered old push button medium wave worthless bit of junk.....good idea or are thieves wise to this??

What I would do in your shoe Goldenfleece is to go to Charle Brown's or Halfords and see if you can purchase some of the stretchy material which you can pull tight over your rear parcel shelf and staple in place. If it's a face off stereo unit the you've won part of the battle but it's not unheard of for herberts to dash in your rear window and make good on their toes carryinging your entire parcel shelf.

Don,t hold youre breath,my dad had his car stereo nicked and the facia panel for it was in the house.Apparently according to the people who fitted it in the first place the thievin gits nick the head unit for the lasers in the C.D player !!.Dunno if its true but it,s worth a thought. And just in case this gets you slightly worried, they got the head unit out in less than 2 minutes according to a nieghbour who saw them, but he did,nt have time to get outside to warn them off.And yes it was very securely fitted.Hope it dont happen to you cos it,s a real pain when it does, not least having to replace the broken window.

If its an expensive cd player might be well worth purchasing a "fake" front panel - I think Halfords sell them.

its not an expensive system, only a £70 job from Maplin....nothing with much street value I should think.....only 40 W per channel so its not going to suit many people with an interest in state of the art car audio...
