There's a 48 hour maximum working week. Whether you work Monday-Friday or Wednesday-Sunday doesn't matter.
A 7-day, 24 hour culture will help the economy. These are the things we need to get a grip of to try and stave off becoming an underclass for new Chinese masters.

Like I said earlier, what worked in the last century doesn't necessarily make sense in this one. I find it odd that I Cannot buy a bag of potatoes after 5pm on a Sunday, but I can go to McDonalds for a burger, sink several pints in the pub and then continue drinking right into Monday morning in a club. What about the McDonalds workers and bar staff? Why is nobody standing up for their rights?

Hmm they must have changed their minds then, I swear the sign in store last weekend said it was open 24 hours all the way through.

That's true, but today was the first day of extended Sunday trading so it's topical. Today was the first Sunday in my lifetime when I've been able to go to Tesco after 5pm. How exciting!

Why have you offended these groups. You are saying they are hard working groups of people who are not afraid of hard graft. A trait to be admired.

You don't live in the real world mate.
You say you don't want to work Sundays, they find a reason to fire you.
Keep your fingers still you don't know what you're talking about.

This is the 21st century. Why should shop workers be protected from working on this special day while for other industries it's par for the course to at least work some Sundays? What about workers in smaller shops who are already allowed to open all Sunday? The Sainsburys in Crookes is open until 11pm. Are you campaigning for their rights?
If people are genuinely worried about being fired over refusing a Sunday then legislation can be put in place the prevent this from happening.
If we truly want to progress and be thought of as a forward thinking society then we need to stop hanging on to draconian practices of yesteryear.
Besides, just because you don't like the idea of working on a Sunday it doesn't mean the rest of the country thinks the same. People without families might want to work Sunday and take off 2 week days. I used to enjoy this privelage when I worked in retail as a student. Sundays are generally wasted days of mentally preparing for work the next day anyway.

Don't forget the workers who work all weekends as per nomal, doctors, nurses, carers, bus drivers, they don't complain because they can't spend time with their families. My daugher is a carer, and works most week ends, and they don't get paid extra for it.

Very true. I don't see a problem with the shops opening for a few more hours on a Sunday. Doesn't mean the staff will HAVE to work more hours and I am sure plenty of people would like/prefer to work a Sunday instead of any other day.

I'm shocked that they're open only 24hrs a day and only 7 days a week. Shame on them.
