A report is coming in of shooting at the Premiere of Batman in Denver. Several casualties reported.
"Reports coming from Denver radio station KOA say that two masked gunman have shot dead 10 people and wounded 30 to 40 others at a showing of new Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises" at a movie theatre in the U.S. city of Denver. Reports say a figure in a gas mask had opened fire at the showing in a mall in the suburb of Aurora and set off a smoke or tear gas bomb. "

Report of 10 killed, an explosion, maybe another device around, and 2 perps involved.
Other reports mention 30 to 40 wounded as well, and including kids.
Not good

How terrible - I've just seen an update on BBC News - 14 people confirmed dead, 50 people injured in total.
They've arrested a guy with a gas mask, handgun & rifle. They've also evacuated his apartment block because they believe he has explosives in his apartment.
I'm guessing it was some nutter who fancied himself as a real-life Batman villain

As this seems to happen every few months maybe its time for the US to have proper gun controls. I won't hold my breath of course.

I think its more complicated than that-ever watched bowling for columbine?

Yes I did though not recently. In short any politician who suggests it is ripped apart by the NRA, freedom is shouted about etc etc.

I was thinking more about about the comparison with canada in particular. Its rather like britain and alcohol versus france and alcohol. There is a difference in mentality.
Although that doesn't excuse them being allowed to offer guns for a new bank account of course which is

Just watching it live on Sky news. One of the dead was only 6.

What's the odds for the NRA holding their next conference in Denver? Bunch of paranoid, pathetic, gun touting sick b******'s that they are!
Americans are the last people that should be allowed to get their hands on guns! Unfortunately, they should have banned them a long time ago.

It's a PG. I'd let my 6 year old watch the film, although I wouldn't go to a 12am showing.

Which is more stringent than the UK.
There isn't an argument for why the child was there as an excuse for a gun toting psychopath. If he wasn't there 9 would still have died, unless the butterfly question comes into force.

The fact that the shooter didn't off himself shows that he wants to be famous is some way, whether he's a religious nut or just a sociopath, He's got some views that he wants heard.
He entered the theatre during a loud scene, let off tear gas and began spraying bullets into the crowd, he chose somewhere which would be hard for people to escape, at the busiest time.
Its so very, very sad.
No doubt someone will try and blame the film in some sort of way, which is stupid because batman is a very anti-guns crusader. When will the Americans realise that tightening their gun laws is not an infringement on their rights but a safety measure?

THIS.
Batman is very, very popular with young children. The chances are the parents at a midnight screening are just as into it as the kids, this would have been an exciting time for the children and the parents would probably enjoy bonding over shared interests with them. PG-13 lets children see it with parents, so they weren't doing anything wrong. This is not the time to judge parenting really is it?
