Anybody know a printers in Sheffield who can print direct on to CDs? We just want a black design on a white background, nothing too fancy, probably a small run of about 50. I'd then burn the discs myself.

Failing that, can anybody recommend a decent quality but cheap printer that could do the job? This might be the more sensible option as we'll be doing more in future.

Cheers!

Epson r200 and r300 will both do it, and are both cheap to run as well.

Canon's IP range prints onto CDR (and DVD)s - I'd recommend canon products completely

Not sure who'd do it locally

A short run like 50 would (like most printing) be prohibitively expensive, so you're really best doing it yourself. Inkjet printers and printable CDRs really aren't that expensive, and if you're burning them yourself you may as well print them.

Either that, or look into a lightscribe drive (google for it). It uses the same technology as CD writing to burn a label on the opposite side of lightscribe compatible discs.
