On Saturday I can watch the ice hockey finals live on broadband, which is great, but it would be even better if I could hear the commentry through my hi fi speakers to get more of a being there feel.
I have bought a lead with 2 jack plugs on one end for the amplifier and 1 on the other end for the computer. Can someone please talk me through which holes to plug em into, and what to set the dials on the amp to.
Thanks, Dave..

Well unfortunately you have bought the wrong lead.
If you have a hifi, it will have spare phono sockets in the back of the amplifier. You should see sockets for tape, CD, tuner, AUX. You need to use one of these not the phono input because that is for a turntable and needs a magnetic cartridge input, it will be distorted if you plug anything else in.

You need a lead which has a 2.5mm stereo jack plug on one end and 2 phono plugs on the other.

You might have the right lead, depends whether you really mean "jack plug" on the hifi end. You'll probably need something that looks like this - but that's assuming the aux inputs on your hifi are phono! The middle lead is what I'd call a jack plug, and that wants to plug into the sound card on your computer - I think the green socket if they are colour coded. The other ends into the L and R phono of whichever hifi input you use. The right is always red, the left can be either black or white...

Rich 951,
you are absolutely correct by pointing out this product with the European name for phono plug, ( RCA ). As some of you know I am fully qualified as a Bicycle Repair Man ( electronic engineer ) and would never stoop to referring to a phono plug as an RCA unless I had to for clarity, as in this case..

That picture definitely shows the correct lead for connecting a HiFi to a PC. Clearly representing my last post.
