So it's AIG for Man Utd. £56.8 million over 4 years. Glad they turned down Mansion even though they would have got a better deal. Shows they have a moral side to them in not promoting gambling.

Adding an off shoot to this thread what do fellow forumers think is the coolest sponsor shirt motiff? Quite like Spurs Thompson one, least they are still smiling when they're losing.

I wanted to start the thread for this seeing as how I support the mighty reds however I held back to give someone else a chance.

I think the AIG deal we have struck is a good one- however I think it would definitely have benefited the club more with going with Mansion.

Also the AIG logo looks crap on the Man Utd shirts so its putting me off buying it at the moment.

You couldnt buy that shirt with AIG on it at the moment.
The shirt on display yesterday is this seasons shirt with the AIG logo ironed on.
Nike will prob design the new shirt due in the summer around the logo, so it might not look so odd next season.

Interesting link regarding Scum's latest sponsors. I think they'll be well suited to each other.

Hence the need to advertise in the Uk!
Jesus - do you not get the concept of advertising?!

AIG are about 10/11th place in terms of size in the FT Top 500 companies, ahead of Coca Cola.
They have not cracked the UK, hence the deal!!

No point Coca Cola sponsoring an English club because everyone knows who they are - AIG needed to raise their profile in certain areas, which United can help them do.

Back to Economics lessons for you..................

If it makes the Premiership more competitive than it has been this year I think it is quite positive

its not all cut and dried as yet - much as I hate the ManUre they could still sneak it if Chelsea don't win again this season. Ferguson would rub it in - 56mil over 4 years is a hell of a good deal for the club as long as he gets the money to buy players that they need - without Giggs performances in midfield they'd have been screwed this season.

7 points lead with 6 to play plus a game at Stamford between the two on 29th April - could be a really tight finish

sorry mate, do you work for them or summat i'd like to know how many people actually know what they do, i'm sure you could tell us.

I'm just saying spending that much money on a shirt sponsorship we should at least know what they're selling. For example, i still dont know what the hell DESUN is (sufc shirt sponsors from previous season) so what was the point in them sponsoring us. Yes AIG they have raised their profile in the uk as they have been all over the papers in recent weeks but I'd be willing to put money on it that if you asked 100 people who they were most of them wouldn't know. It doesn't help that the name AIG is so nospecific and nonedescript it could be anything. How many people do you know bank with DWS as a result of their Aston Villa shirt sponsorship deal (German bank, only reason i know this is they had to change the logo as it looked like "cows")

so, nothing to do with economy lessons just common sense,

I've heard of AIG but I sincerely doubt the vast majority of the public have any idea what they are. I would imaging they will somehow incorporate sub-brands into their advertising to ensure advertisement of product-specific items.
