What do you think? Which is/was the most fair system? Was Maggie on to something or are more people better off without Poll Tax?

I'm interested to hear what people think.

You'll have to explain how each one works before I can decide, most people will go for which ever one costs them the least I would guess.

All as good / bad as each other. Don't see any point in spending untold millions in changing the system again.

Well... Rates were levied on buildings and based on how much a property would cost if it were rented out. People thought this system was unfair because it meant an old lady living alone would pay the same as an entire family next door which might have three or more wage earners.

Poll tax was levied on every registered voter - sounded a lot more fair but a lot of people refused to pay it so it resulted in chaos.

Council tax is what we have now. I'll have to leave that to someone else to explain though... I think it's based on the area you live in but I'm not too sure. I was hoping someone would explain it to me!

EDIT: I've just found out that council tax is based on the size/value of each property.

I think you should add an extra option to the poll - a hypothetical local income tax. This would be the fairest of them all.

Ok I will - do you know how to do that? I've only just found out how to post a poll.
