I know not the most interesting topic but....
The grass on the playing field near my house (Lower Walkley) has not been cut all year and is now several feet high. Is it the same everywhere, or have we been singled out for poor maintenance?
I figured there might be cuts in these sorts of services (last year the cutting was much reduced) but to have none at all makes the place look a mess. It seems to me that other green spaces have been maintained to a much higher standard but some feedback from other areas would be useful.

Sheffield is looking particularly derelict this year but plenty of stories about people getting told that they cant cut communal grass etc for H&S reasons

The grass cutting used to be done on a regular basis, but due to the cutbacks, its now only done if its REQUESTED.
That playing field is the responsibility of the parks & countryside dept, however, if you call street force on 2734567 between 8am and 6pm, someone (probably me) will put in the request for it to be done.

I'm pretty sure this is a council owned field. Half is fenced off for a school. It all used to get cut but now only the school's bit is being done.

I know for a fact that the cutting has been requested, several times, it hasn't however been done.
This policy is not stated on the parks and countryside website either and it seems as though other spaces have been cut.

I've noticed this near us, disgracefully long grass, which when cut is just left looking a right mess.
Judging by my own lawn which I've mown loads more than last year I think the excess rain we have had has lead to grass growing with unusual vigour as well as possible cut backs.

Maybe its not stated on the parks & countryside website, but we do the job bookings, and they go and do the work.
And if you PM me your name, address & post code, and details of the playing field in question, I will check if you have requested it, and put the order through myself.
Cant say fairer than that

It has been cut though? I agree it is growing a bit more but not that much more. I could just about accept last years messy and rare cutting if that's what the cut backs are going to mean but to have none at all, it takes the biscuit.
I am starting to wonder what I pay my council tax for. Seems to me keeping the place looking a bit tidy should be one of their main jobs, where does all the money go?

If this is the field that I'm thinking of then it was surprisingly long when we took the dog out on it last week. It was a bit of a surprise for the grass to be as deep as the dog's legs. I don't recall it ever being that long in the last 5 years.

I've noticed myself, the grass seems to be growing much higher before its being cut. But not sure if thats a good area to cut down on.

I found out that parks and countryside are refusing any responsibility for this particular field, saying it's educations problem.
I would encourage anyone in Lower Walkley who knows where I'm taking about (you can't miss it if you live nearby) to write to your councilors to complain as much as possible until something is done. I'll be writing tonight.

I complained about the none grass cutting via email last week about a particular gennel that was 'lost' through being overgrown. This has been a request made by several people over the months and it was falling on deaf ears. My last email stated about writing to the local councillor (which i've since done) and surprise, surprise, it's been done!!
The whole of Sheffield looks an absolute sh*t heap and far from being 'Sheffield-greener city' looks more like the Day Of The Triffids!!
Shame on the council for the cut backs (or lack of!) on manageing verges etc, and not spending money on maintaining these.
