As I arrived at my voluntary job at Intake primary, I was greeted with a horrible stench of burnt paper and fumes... To my horror, I discovered the classroom I help out in was the one emmitting the terrible smell.
It appears some very small people broke into a year one classroom on Monday night, climbed through a window and entered the classroom. These people then went into the stockroom inside the classroom and lit a fire. The fire has damaged all the children's work and has caused terrible damage to most of the toys and resources used to teach the kids in this class.
The odd thing is, nothing was stolen, other than a box of lollipops that the children have for birthdays. The "Play money" was thrown on the floor, showing that it had been tampered with, however there was a small amount of real money which wasn't touched.
The children's chairs were all arranged on the carpet infront of the whiteboard (strange?!) when the teacher discovered the fire and break in on Tuesday Morning.
The fire only occured within the stockroom and it hadn't spread as whoever did it had closed the door, cutting off the oxygen supply.
I think this is terrible. It was the last thing I was expecting when I arrived... The children are so upset because all their hard work has gone up in smoke and obviously as a classroom assistant, I'm upset too because I've spent ages helping the children learn and all the evidence of the progression the children have made has gone.
Not only that, but the insurance company are making the school stand the first £200 of damages... So in the meantime the children have to do without their plastic playblocks to help them count and their large plastic clock which helps them tell the time...
I just hope someone has seen this so I can put forward some names... Fingerprints have been taken but judging by nature of the situation, its unlikely that the person we're looking for is a hardened criminal... They only took lollies ffs!
The name "bad boys" has been inscribed into a wall close by and apparently these are a local gang who *may* have had something to do with this mindless destruction... Hope someone can help.
