mjw47 Â Â 10 #50 Posted April 23, 2014 The best patron saint ever to come from Syria. Â Always understood that he was born in Cappadocia which is now part of Turkey. Â He was said to have been executed in Lydda in Palestine, having said which, there are conflicting versions of his life and even some doubt as to whether or not he actually existed. Â The whole Dragon thing throws a bit of a question mark into the debate. Â Having said which, Happy his Day anyway.
 Share this content via...

He's supposed to have overcome it and converted others to christianity
 Share this content via...

What about the comely maiden tied to the tree with the fire breathing dragon about to devour her?   I always understood that he was a Roman soldier who objected to the persecution of Christians by the authorities and payed for his insubordination with his life.  There is obviously some confusion as to the facts, but Happy St Georges day anyway!
