I think all dogs of a certain build/attack potential should be either kept on a secure lead or muzzled in public places.

I think all dog owners need to be responsible and the thinking that some breeds if dogs are 'safe' is quite dangerous. Any dog could kill a child if left unsupervised, it doesn't matter how big they are. A Pomeranian killed a kid! http://articles.latimes.com/2000/oct/09/local/me-34015
I really hope bull breeds arent vilified more because of this. This isn't about bull breeds beingdangerous. This is about a man who clearly wants his dog to attack and hr would do this no matter what breed he had...

Yesterday evening, my officers recovered a dog from an address in the Firth Park area. The dog remains in our possession. I am satisfied that this dog is the same dog which attacked two other dogs (killing one of them) in Firth Park last month. The investigation will continue around tracing the person responsible for the dog at the time of the attack. Can I thank those who have contributed to this enquiry and I hope to be able to update you soon as to the outcome of the enquiry. Kind Regards

Wonderful news! There will be lots of dog walkers in Firth Park breathing a sigh of relief - including me.

Thank you for letting us know KPInspector, its such a relief to know that the dog is no longer around the area, I hope that the "person responsible" for this dog gets what they deserve as well.

I do hope the man responsible for the dog is made responsible for his part in these attacks, i have contacted the ploice as i am POSITIVE this man and dog were the ones who attacked Billy. My friend who was walking him at the time gave a pretty accurate description of them both, and they are spot on match to the ones given here.
I am happy that this dog is now in safe hands though, and im sure Billy will be once he is allowed out after his strict rest period

Such good news :-) As others have already said, I hope the owner is fully punished and he should never be allowed animals again

Sorry for the late reporting. Things have been busy over the weekend for us.
On Friday 24th August Officers from my team arrested a 37 year old Sheffield man in connection with an incident which occurred on 23rd July in Firth Park, where a dog was fatally attacked. The man was later released on police bail whilst officers continue the enquiry.
