Derelict House, Swallownest.

Recommended Posts

Looks like the kids have been lying to me!! I was hoping for some really good ghost stories!!

It's a shame to see it in such a state. I bet it was a lovely house before it became derelict and abandoned.

Yes it was a lovely house with such a welcoming atmosphere - even at a young age I used to love going there and exploring the garden and stream. I can see now why people would think it was haunted but sorry to spoil your stories :)

Just been looking at the thread about the boarded up house in Meadowhead and it reminded me of one just down the road from where i live. It's on Main Street, just at the bottom of High Street, near the co-op.

It's quite a big house and i always think it looks really spooky. Theres a little stream right next to it and it looks as though the house is about to fall right in to it!

I've just had a look at it on google maps and the image is from 2008. It looks as though somebody had bought it and was about to do it up. They obviously never got round to it as it's currently all boarded up and looks to be in quite a sorry state.

Does anybody know anything about the history of the house? Local kids have said it's suppossed to be haunted!

I've tried putting a link to it on google maps but can't get it to work!

if its strange things like spooks and scary folk your looking for, try going in the rosegarth on a saturday night when the meeting of the clans happen youve got the likes of the kelks and the chapmans now that is frightning

I always thought that house was bought by the same company that built the new estate on the other side of the stream where the garden centre used to be, there was a burnt out caravan on the drive but that has been removed recently.

Oh and the stories about it being haunted will obviously be complete and utter balderdash.

Oaksbury Homes still own the site and we are planning some Luxury Apartments for 2018 but this is not confirmed yet.

Just had an look at yours plans why no pitched roof or gable ends very little in architectural decoration? The reason I say this is so many modern builds look the same, flat roof, glass balconies its making every town and city look like cardboard copies of each other. I'm not against modern architecture by any means but its seems that every new apartment building is off the same drawing board.

I'd love to get in and have a look around!

An angel going in to collect the stray ghost and take them to heaven.

Are you sure that's a good idea?

The developer who built on the garden centre next to this property ended up selling most of the properties at cost to the council because they couldn't sell them privately. Also, the flats at the cross roads were very slow to sell - and they weren't luxury.
