I quite agree with you, well i don't think wages disposable income has got any better for the masses since the recession. how ever the latter is spot on, putting people into negative equity and such. Going back to our earlier thread, these are the university educated people that you said know better, who we should listen to. There will be not extensive house building for at least a generation for your reasons. So who are the populous to believe in any debate other than as i said earlier, its what affects them.

Specifically these are the politicians who must win votes or deny votes to others to stay or get in to power. They do so by pandering to the biggest groups of people through populist campaigns. Campaigns that point blame at other groups of people such as single mothers, immigrants, people claiming benefits e.t.c. These are people like Boris Johnson who thought it was easier to manipulate a bunch of people looking for a protest vote because they were ignorant of the truth of what the EU is or does and couldn't be bothered to check the claptrap they spouted. And because ignorant people continue to believe the rubbish that such politicians spout instead of challenging it the politicians continue to spout it it to get into power.

So we have voted to leave the EU because a majority of people literally voted for all the wrong reasons, lies, or on the basis of completely separate issues altogether, such as spite and resentment over matters that have little or nothing to do with the EU.
