Best movie remakes ever

In contrast to the other post on worst remakes ever....what do people think are the best remakes?

For me it's The Thing. Loved it, saw more of the Alien, better insight to characters etc.

Gone in sixty Seconds.

Great first time round, but an excellent remake as well.

The Nutty Professor.

Also, I loved Heat. Not sure it was any better than LA Takedown but the top quality actors did an excellent job as always. I didn't think Oceans Eleven was too bad either.

Yes, I mentioned this in my Worst Movie Remkes post a few weeks back because I don't expect this to be any good. Call me cynical but I think they have done as much as they can with it and will not improve it no matter how they try.

Mission Impossible 2 was a vast improvement from Mission Impossible 1 IMO, something to do with the director perhaps?
