Fairydreams   10 #14 Posted January 24, 2004 I'd agree with The Fly, also...  City Of Angels (vs Wings Of Desire). Both excellent, but they chose a different route so allowing them to explore different sides of the same plot.  My Father The Hero was of the same standard as Mon Père Ce Héro.  Lord Of The Rings of course (if going from animation to real life counts). dilwise   10 #15 Posted January 24, 2004 I don't generally like remakes. but Heat I can watch and watch again. However, I can also watch the original over and over. Manhunter was brilliant with Wm. Petersen and has not been bettered.( Red Dragon was remake)  The Fly was excellent.  There are not many films that are worth remaking and why dont they spend the money on something original. Fairydreams   10 #16 Posted January 24, 2004 Reasons for remakes include translation (some people don't like a film in another language) or updating (e.g. improvements in special effects such as for the fly).  Most of the time it doesn't work well, be there are times when it does. Normally because someone tries to remove originality or subtlety to make something more 'mainstream' (thinks La Femme Nikita -> Assassin). Rich   12 #17 Posted January 26, 2004 Best remakes?! Dunno if you can call them "remakes" per se, but I'd say the Star Wars special editions are pretty good, apart from the Empire Strikes Back one.
 Share this content via...
