Guest sibon   #13 Posted March 25, 2015 I don't understand why they are doing it. I cannot see it is value for money at all. They would be better increasing road capacity and speed if they want people to get where they are going more quickly in a convenient mode of transport.  I'm a fan of driving myself, but I think that this bloke got it right, and gives us all a clue about why HS2 might be useful.  Not to mention the boost to the economy that building it will bring. The train is fine now. Doesn't need a squillion quid spending on a new system. Right now going to London need stop be done by train cause the roads need upgrading.  Well spotted btw. kidneystone   23 #15 Posted March 25, 2015 In my opinion its a waste of money. The money would be better spent on improving what we have.  If it did ever go ahead the cost would not end up at £50bn. You could double or even treble that then add some more on.
 Share this content via...

But I'm normally heading for Fulham, which is pretty easy by road.  I like trains too though.
 Share this content via...

I'd rather think it won't be. Someone will say then "why didn't we build hs2 25 years ago".  So we improve roads, or rather build new ones. The m25 is what, 6 lanes in places and I've lost count the number of times ive been sat in one of those lanes going nowhere. If they built a 4 lane motorway along roughly the route of hs2 do you think the nay Sayers will suddenly think it's a good idea? Of course not they won't want it on their doorstep any more than HS2 (and what will a litre of petrol be in 25 years time??).  Speaking of the m25 there were plenty of people who didn't want that to come to fruition when the first plans were revealed. It's a horrible, busy bit of road but can you imagine how bad it would be without it?
 Share this content via...

Exclude long term unemployed and only give it to UK nationals you're looking at more. Allow citizens to redistribute as they see fit would boost all sectors of the economy, not just a handful of big construction companies. Bonzo77 Â Â 13 #23 Posted June 1, 2015 Public opinion is still very much against HS2 and the majority continues to grow. Â Why don't the government listen to the public and have a referendum on the subject?
