Gazzard ,Singlton,Gabbitas &Wood,Ibbotson.

I don't know if it is still the same but all the building contractors had their decorating crew.

My grandfather started a painting and decorating business in 1910.

W. Burgin & Son.

Shop and workyard used to be on Duke St in Park District. It finished in 1960s when my dad ( he was the son!) was ill and couldn't carry on. Used to employ quite a few men at one time.

Yes, I was lucky not to get roped into that Battle of Hastings thing

I had a full time job painting the Sheilds.

I worked for Flint Brothers. Opposite the Abbeydale Cinema on Machon Bank.

Flints had the contracts on all Tennant's Pubs. We also worked in most of the major steel works particularly during the wakes weeks when they closed down July/August
