There are loads of people die from it every year why is she any more special than them?  She isn't; but people do care, because she's a celebrity.   Actually it might lead to some good, because she's done work for charities working on malaria before, and she might well make the same point that you do; millions of children die of malaria each year and the rich countries don't even notice, but one minor celebrity comes down with it and it's all over the papers.
