Hello RedCapmick,

Sorry I can't find any 1952 era vans but thought you may like to see the two carts shown on this link, if you haven't seen them already. A little before your time eh? :) Click on these, then click on 'Zoom image' to see a bigger pic

Co-incidentally, I drove bread vans for Bells Bread off Abbeydale Road for a short time in 1964.

Regards, Peter.

I worked at B&C on the retail side for 45 years and have a large collection of photos including the many shops and vehicles the Society owned . I have no photos of bakery vehicles but there is one of a mobile shop which is very interesting . My e-mail address is cooke775@btinternet,com .

My dad remembers the B&C bakery vans and mobile shops. The mobile shops served the larger housing estates and he particularly remembers them on the Manor Estate where he was living 1950-63.

The B&C bakery vans he remembers from when he was working in Brightside over the same time period. Late morning a van would call into the works yard because the driver "had a bit left over from the deliveries" and it would be sold off to the workers cheap. On Fridays he used to split a large loaf with a mate, scoop out the middle and have chips and a fishcake in the hollow.
