Increasingly 51 bus service affected

Recommended Posts

Not sure where the OP means.

There is a stop in Heeley Bank Road, near Olive Grove, and there's another stop by KFC, in Charlotte Road.

KFC is on Queens Road, so I'm not clear what the problem is.

Bus companies exist to make profits for shareholders. They are not there to provide a public service, that's communism and was abolished by Thatcher. As Maggie said - only losers take the bus.
Unfortunately, you're correct.

The criminal law overrides any T&C's applied by any bus company this applies here as Duty of Care by an individual driver and operator.

There is a whole set of legislation in place and under consultation that is/would protect a passenger from being put in a position of danger by an individual driver and operator.

The Law requires that you do not put people at risk when they are travelling on a bus and that includes what happens in a situation where a bus is withdrawn for whatever reason. The Law would obviously be very harsh on a bus driver and a company or its representative who put a child, disabled or vulnerable person at risk by leaving them on the road side. Refusal to get off a bus to oblige the driver/company to comply with this duty of care should be seen as normal and in any case is not a criminal offence. In such cases "reasonable " care obliges the bus driver to do something to "protect" that person until they are in a "place of safety". Some passengers might decide that they are able to carry on themselves as it would be easier or more convenient but the same laws apply.

The Railway has always had a legal requirement to transport a passenger to their destination when an unforeseen event takes place to the service (not strikes).

Acts and Sections please

If referring to Duty of Care:

Duty of Care is not an Act or a Section.

If referring to completion of railway journeys:

See "National Rail Conditions of Travel". 28.1 If disruption prevents you from completing the journey shown on your Ticket, any Train Company will, where it reasonably can, provide you with

alternative means of travel to your destination, or if necessary provide overnight accommodation for you.

It could be that the driver has finished his shift and his replacement has not turned up.

He, the driver may be unaware that there's a problem with his relief, so he cant be blamed for not continuing the journey.
