Harvest   10 #1 Posted April 17, 2015 Unemployment hits a 7 year low as Tories announce 2 million new jobs created since 2010.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-32348353  UK unemployment has fallen to its lowest rate since July 2008, official figures have shown.  The number of jobless people dropped by 76,000 to 1.84 million in the three months to February, the Office for National Statistics said on Friday.  That means the unemployment rate has fallen to 5.6%, in line with forecasts.  Average weekly earnings in the three months to February, excluding bonuses, rose by 1.8% compared with the same period a year earlier.  I also note the IMF has praised the handling of the UK economy as it continues to out perform the rest of the EU. poppet2 Â Â 13 #2 Posted April 17, 2015 Fine, providing you can live on two hours a week zero hour contracts which if offered by the job centre, you are forced to take otherwise you lose your benefits. What a stitch-up.
 Share this content via...

What a stitch-up.  Im sorry but you are wrong. You are only taken off your benefits if you work more than 16 hours a week, but don't let the facts get in the way of a ignorant rant.  ---------- Post added 17-04-2015 at 16:23 ----------  Provide proof to the contrary  Don't get sucked into poppet2's lack of knowledge.  Have a read: https://www.gov.uk/jobseekers-allowance/eligibility  3. WalkleyIan   10 #8 Posted April 17, 2015 If the news is so great, and you cant deny the headline figures tell a good story, then why aren't the Tory party soaring in the polls by now?  They should really be up past 40% and heading for a decent majority by now. Maybe they are and its 1992 all over again.
 Share this content via...
Harvest   10 #9 Posted April 17, 2015 Im sorry but you are wrong. You are only taken off your benefits if you work more than 16 hours a week.  And only 1 job in 45 in the UK is on a zero hour contract anyhow. So those working short hours is virtually zero. Alan Ladd   10 #10 Posted April 17, 2015 Fine, providing you can live on two hours a week zero hour contracts which if offered by the job centre, you are forced to take otherwise you lose your benefits. What a stitch-up.  There are 700,000 people on zero hours contracts about 350,000 prefer to be on such contracts, a further 17% of the total are students working in catering, stewarding type jobs, there are about 250,000 on these contracts that would prefer an alternative.  Out of a total workforce of 30 million this is a tiny proportion.  (Figures from Daily Politics)  ---------- Post added 17-04-2015 at 16:31 ----------  If the news is so great, and you cant deny the headline figures tell a good story, then why aren't the Tory party soaring in the polls by now?  They should really be up past 40% and heading for a decent majority by now. Maybe they are and its 1992 all over again.  Its a very good question,I feel that there is still some hangover from the Thatcher era, with many thinking that Cameron is similar.  In fact Cameron has more in common with Macmillan and the "one nation" Tory than the divisive Thatcher.  It could well be a 1992 moment, I hope it is because I do not relish a Labour SNP coalition which will not feature the SNP leader but will feature Alex Salmon. A nightmare scenario if ever there was one.
 Share this content via...

Alan Ladd   10 #12 Posted April 17, 2015 Add the 700k on ZHC and those on suspended benefits to 1.8m and things are no better  "The poor are always with us" as the philosopher said.  Things are much better, think back to 2010, think whats been achieved since in only 5 years.  Dont lets exchange lists, its better, period. And if the country keeps its nerve, votes Cameron back in, those who you are so concerned about can prosper, but only if we have an economy strong enough to afford to do so.
