Nora Woodward at Wiggin Hall

Hi folks, I've come across a Nora Woodward having passed away in 1952 at Wiggin Hall, Stannington. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this.

Nora died 20 July 1952 and buried 24 July 1952 aged 43 years.

She is buried at Christ Church, Stannington.

 

1939 Register, Wiggin Hall.

Norah Maesen (Woodward), D.O.B. 11 Jan 1909, unpaid domestic duties, married.

Mary Maesen (Helliwell), D.O.B. 2 Feb 1931, at school.

They are in the same household as Wilfred and Melinda Womak.

That's interesting, in my family there's a Colin Woodward (1911-1974) who married Mabel Hattersley in 1936, my great aunt. Colin died in '74, Mabel died in '77. Roouting around on FMP the other night, i found a Colin Woodward marrying a Norah Van Der Measen in '51. I'm convinced it's the same Colin.

Do you know if Colin and Mabel separated or divorced?

 

 

Norah Womack married Jacobus C. Van Der Maesen Q3 1931, registration

district is Wortley. So in 1939 she is back with her parents.

 

IN 1911, Norah aged two, is with her parents Wilfred and Melinda at Underbank,

Stanninigton.

By all accounts, Colin was a wrong un, for whatever reason he had Mabel committed to the asylum. They had one child, George born 1940. No one knows anything about George or if he's alive.

Mabel was 1 of 8, my Nana was the oldest, one sister died when she was 16 (Mona), one brother died as an infant (Geoffrey), 4 sisters ended up in Preston (Edna, my Nana, Elsie, Iris and Joyce. And there was another brother George FCF who is believed to have had mental health issues. So very little is known. Or no one has wanted to talk about it. Its a mystery.

 

It's interesting that Nora's maiden name is Womack, as the marriage index i came across shows Colin marrying Norah Van Der Measen or Womack.

However why does Norah have Woodward in brackets after her name in the 1939 Register, when she doesn't marry Colin until 1951 ??

The 1939 Register was updated, I believe before going online. Norah's surname Maeson

now has a line through it, and the surname Woodward written over the top to show

she had remarried.

So she must've remarried someone called Woodward by 1939 or would it have been later if the Register was updated ?

In 1939 her surname was Maeson. It would be only quite recently that the

register was updated.
