Albert Jackson - Chevrolet Impala!

In the early/mid 60s my late dad had a friend called Albert Jackson. I believe he owned a plumbing/heating business. As a child I recall attending a party with my parents at his house. I remember being in awe of his car which I believe was a Chevrolet (impala)?, And also the fact that he had a swimming pool in the garden, both of which meant he must have been doing pretty well in those days!. I have always wondered exactly where the house was, anyone any ideas?.

I dont know where the house was but the business was on Shalesmoor my wife used to do the books for him.

As I recall he also had a very nice E Type.

In the early 70s whilst living in London, my dad had a Chevrolet Impala. I remember it being massive with bench seats which were really springy and of course it was left hand drive. Can you imagine driving that around London today !!

Hi mike-s in my teens I knocked around Infirmary Road the old Kelvin and Shalesmoor,this was in the 60s!.I do recollect seing a Chevrolet Impala driving around the area at that time,if I remember rightly it was two tone white and yellow with huggins of chrome and those fantastic wings at the rear!.I always wondered who owned it as at the time English cars were pretty drab,your post triggered my memory,thanks!.

The 1969 Kelly's directory shows an Albert Jackson at 128 Townhead Road, Dore, though of course it might not be the same person.

Yes, in the early 1970s it could often be seen parked outside Albert Jackson's showroom at 138-144 West Bar; the registration number was AJ.5.

Hi everyone, I had a 1959 Chevy Impala, Gold and White colour which I used to drive around town in 1972 ish. It was big, I would try and find somewhere large enough to park it and then go in the Buccaneer to meet the lads. I don't know if it was AJs old car with a different number plate mine was HOS 213

This is a good business friend of my fathers - Albert Jackson American Cars - he had a site in Sheffield, but proably in the 50/60's he had a place at (I thinmk) Harthill area called Car or Carr Farm where he operated from. Also in the 70's a site at Conisbrough

He was always known as the American Car Specialist. He wore a large diamond ring which he took off when going to London because he thought someone would chop off his finger to steal the ring

I think we are talking about two different people here.

The Albert Jackson mentioned in the original post had a plumbing business with premises on Abbeydale Road and Shalesmoor.

He had the registration AJ5 on several cars including a yellow E type Jaguar.

I used to have a drink with him in the Dore Moor Inn, he lived in Dore.

The other Albert Jackson owned Crossroads Garage in Conisborough, he lived in Thorpe Salvin near Worksop.

He bought and sold American cars, I used to buy cars of him.

As well as American cars he also dealt in more expensive cars such as Rolls, Bentleys and such like.

There was a large shed at the back of the garage which was full of cars, all of which would be worth a fortune today.

His son David took over the business when he died.

I think we are talking about two different people here.

I bought a Marcos GT from Albert Jackson in Conisborough back in 1969 and it was in fact stored in the large shed you mention in your post.

I remember a friend having a Marcos around 1970,I wanted to take it for a drive but being 6'2'' I couldn't get in it.
