  1. 1. Would you consider Home CInema in your Home environment?

    • Not in the slightest bit interested, a waste of time and money
    • Prefer to stick with plasma TV from Tesco online or equiv
    • Interested in a 'made to measure' custom design and installation
    • Would consider turning a spare room or making 1 room a dedicated cinema
    • Would consider using existing room as a multi purpose room, ie 'hidden' cinema options
    • Would do a full cinema installation by myself because I am very clever at things like that
    • Would use Home cinema mainly for SKY HD, Freeview or general TV viewing only

    • Would use Home cinema for the full cinema experience with Blu Ray or HD movies
    • Would use Home cinema mainly for big screen Playstation, Wi, PC Games, etc
    • I would be interested in 'full Monty' custom cinema, the best available

I am now setting up a full custom digital home cinema design and installation company in Sheffield, and am just interested in some feedback.....simply run thro the poll and just indicate your thoughts, much appreciated...just for stat purposes only, no one will be contacted as a result of filling this in

The motivation is a huge demand for people turning their spare rooms into dedicated home cinemas, or multi function lounges. Now that components such as HD projectors are really dropping in price, you can have a basic custom cinema installation for as little as £2k, as compared to about £8k 2 years or so ago. That includes custom fitted screen, either a 16:9 or a full 2.35:1 cinemascope screen with full vertical masking solutions, curtains (elecric or manual), HD digital projector, Blue Ray/DVD HD player/recorder, and Dolby Digital surround sound system with all the trimmings. The high end installations can go up to 100K+, but these are very specialist and give the FULL professional cinema envrionment and facilities, but Home cinema magazines indicate such high end installations are in big demand, even in the recession......

Any comments you have, be pleased to receive them, but HD projection is now far cheaper than plasma TV and a far far superior cinematic experience. Having designed home cinemas myself, I am puting together a team of experienced people who can offer the full service, from room design to colour schemes, equipment choices to full bespoke cabling solutions, automatic operations, etc

Although I'm personally not interested at the moment, I don't necessarily think it's a waste of time or money for those that want it and have £2K+ to spare.

What happened to your earlier, similar thread

It was in the wrong section and directly promoting a service, which is not allowed. This thread is simply doing a survey to gauge public opinion on home cinema, and if anyone has thought about it and what they would use it for. I have not yet started my business, so am not actually promoting it, its just to test the potential market in Sheffield area.....

Would do it myself, no point getting charged more for setting up, in essence simple equipment.

Yes you can do it yourself for sure...I have..but then I am am both electronically and mechanically minded...but there are lots of new companies springing up in many cities and towns doing state of the art installations, they have identified a definite market trend for bespoke home cinema, although mainly this is happening in the affluent suburbs, so in the case of Sheffield, S10,11 and 17 are the 'bespoke solution' areas.....some of these top of the range firms are charging up to 100K for a home cinema set-up, proving the money is out there to spend on such luxuries as bespoke home cinema.

They may have popped up, but I can see them disapearing just as fast when they get no custom.

True....but if there is a growing demand, why would it suddenly die off? The age of digital cinema is upon us, and now that equipment is dropping fast in price, the reality is a decent but basic home cinema (projection) can be had for around £2K........I see a time where most homes in the better areas have dedicated cinema rooms, and this is certainly happening in the South East at the moment. But Sheffield Hallam district is the 2nd richest in the UK, so the demand iwll probably be there...I know many people in Dore, Fulwood, et al, who have money to burn, and don't know what to do with it:suspect:

do you really think a bit of DIY and your going to be able to charge 100K - get real.

the markets saturated, you won`t have the skill set and anyone you take on would be doing for themself if they were good enough. Quick example - we were taking air bricks out to route cables round a small semi last week - would you have?

you`ll end up fitting the cheap 2K stuff for the customers who you don`t want and make nothing on every job.

non intended but its this years double glazing, utility warehouse and amway all rolled into one.

Where's the "I've already got a full surround sound setup and am happy with it" option?
