Rotherham Renegades B.H.C – New players required for the 2014-15 season.

The Renegades are a newly established Ball Hockey Club in the South Yorkshire area. The Renegades formed in February of this year and have already claimed their first national title, Tier 2 National Champions. We currently train and play our home games out of the Simply Skate Arena, which is based in the Eastwood Trading Estate, Rotherham.

Ball Hockey in the UK is governed by Ball Hockey UK (BHUK) and is played on a national level with teams competing from across the UK in such areas as London/Cardiff and Newcastle. The Renegades currently compete in the BHUK Central Conference with teams from Nottingham/Manchester and Sheffield. As well as the league format, teams compete in national, qualifying tournaments throughout the season, culminating in the national finals, which are held at the Queens Road rink, Sheffield in the spring of each year.

So what is Ball Hockey?

Ball hockey is essentially Ice Hockey without the ice. The rules are very similar and it’s played out of dedicated rinks like Simply Skate, or normal sports halls. Ball Hockey is also popular across the globe, in places such as mainland Europe and the United States/Canada. The main advantages to Ball Hockey is that it’s more accessible, as all you need to start is a stick which cuts down on an obvious expense when looking to star/try a new sport.

The Renegades are currently recruiting players for the upcoming season (starts September/October2014), players of all levels…complete novice, to players who have either experienced Ball, Ice or Roller Hockey previously are welcome. If you would like to try it then the Renegades train every Thursday evening at 9pm at Simply Skate Arena. First session is free and £5 after that, we usually train for 90 mins so a good workout is guaranteed.
