Help for person with mental health issues

Recommended Posts

Recently moved to shefffield and suffer from mental health issues and wondered what services and support there was around the area.

Also looking for a good doctor in s6 that is good with people with mental health issues.

Part of my issues involves struggling to cope in new situations and social anxiety so find it hard to approach people and join in so looking for friendly supportive places where people won't judge me and I can feel safe while joining in at my own pace. I am currently under assessment for autism as well as having generalised anxiety, social anxiety and depression plus seizures caused by panic attacks.

First of all, welcome to Sheffield, it's a good place to live.

I can't personally recommend any particular doctor in S6 or anywhere else I'm afraid; they're all under pressure, but I do think it's important for you to contact your local doctor asap, and ask for a referral to mental health services, there's a waiting list so the sooner the process starts the better.

Most people in Sheffield are generally friendly so don't worry too much, but would a church group provide you with a more gentle, nurturing environment just to start with while you find your feet?

Hello. Anna B is right, most people in the surrounding areas are generally very friendly. Its very brave of you to tackle new situations which make you anxious. I hope that tackling these issues, searching out and getting support will help you feel a little more at ease. I have found the contact details for the Sheffield autistic Society for you. I'm sure you will find some support here.
