As I lived nearby, I think the explosion happened in 1965. there were two fatalities, the house occupants.

It was officially described as a Gas Explosion.

I have been told that the bottom end of Canada Street was cordoned off, and an unexploded bomb was searched for but never found in 1940.

A coincidence. ?
