hoegrammer   10 #1 Posted November 25, 2014 We are wondering whether to get our cat neutered now or to wait for her to have a litter. She's a beautiful black cat with a loving and entertaining personality. We'd like her (and us!) to have the experience of kittens but we don't want to be irresponsible, or end up with a house full of cats!  Are any of you looking for a new kitten in the next few months, and if not, what do you feel is the general climate for this? Are they difficult to house or in demand?  We've got an appointment already, but I wanted to check because if there is a demand then we would love to allow such a wonderful thing to happen.  Naomi and Gareth
 Share this content via...
Vaati   11 #2 Posted November 25, 2014 Far too many abandoned cats out there - do the right thing. Have her neutered.
 Share this content via...
Posiepaws   10 #3 Posted November 25, 2014 Oh my goodness please get this cat neutered.  Sheffield is overrun with stray cats and kittens and the rescue centres are bursting at the seams. If you love cats as a whole then do the right thing and play a part in helping keep numbers down. If you know anyone who wants a new pet direct them to one of the rehoming centres - they will be very grateful!  Besides which you have no idea who your beloved cat will mate with - it is very likely to be the local neighbourhood tom who could be carrying any type of disease (including FIV - the feline version of HIV) and this cannot be vaccinated against.  Having kittens is a huge commitment and plenty of times it goes without a hitch. However if something happened to your girl during birth do you have the time and commitment to hand rear up to six kittens? And do you have the funds (up to £800) required in case she needs a c-section?  Cats can get pregnant from six months of age but it doesn't mean they should. You wouldn't send your 12 year old daughter out to be fertilised by the local lothario - don't do it with your cat!!!
 Share this content via...
geared   305 #4 Posted November 25, 2014 Jesus get the damn thing neutered, there are so many abandoned and stray cats out there it's stupid.  No-one is looking for Kittens, there are so many available from irresponsible owners it's got to be abit silly. spats   10 #5 Posted November 25, 2014 Ditto everything that has already been said already. Just have a look at all the freeads on Gumtree etc....there's dozens of the poor little things. There's no chance all of them will get a home. And where do you think all the kittens will go when nobody wants them? Abandoned out on the streets that's where, or given away for free to god knows who for god knows what purpose, & maybe just a very lucky few will make it into a rescue. PLEASE don't breed from your cat.
 Share this content via...
angel22 Â Â 10 #6 Posted November 25, 2014 Please, please get her spayed ASAP. Â She doesn't need to have kittens.
 Share this content via...
midgecat   10 #7 Posted November 25, 2014 Agree so much with what everyone else says. However if you'd like the experience of kittens do get in touch ... always lots of abandoned kittens and pregnant females who need foster places. mc55 Â Â 10 #8 Posted November 25, 2014 also, you may not be aware that black is the hardest colour to rehome. Â There is an interesting graphic somewhere that shows how quickly cats reproduce ... will see if I can find a link, it is quite frightening something like: 1 year = 12, 2 years = 67, 3 years = 376, 4 years = 2107
 Share this content via...
ami_j   10 #9 Posted November 25, 2014 please dont breed her there are so many kittens needing homes, they end up going for stupidly low prices.  And no one hardly wants black kittens, when i got mine loads of people wanted the other colours, i was the only one to ask about hm
 Share this content via...
Chazndave   10 #10 Posted November 25, 2014 I have worked in rescue centres for years. PLEASE get your cat neutered. Not JUST because of how many kittens there are but because of the risk of cancer in un speyed females as well. So unfair on her to not have her done!!! vwkittie   10 #11 Posted November 26, 2014 Agree so much with what everyone else says. However if you'd like the experience of kittens do get in touch ... always lots of abandoned kittens and pregnant females who need foster places.  That's a great idea!  Can only echo what has already been said, far too many cats and not enough homes as it is. Plain Talker   11 #12 Posted November 26, 2014 Another vote for doing the right thing by your kitty... Neuter, neuter, neuter, all the way. There's far too many cats desperate for homes, who are stuck in the rescues. Just go and have a peek at the sheffield cat shelter, for instance. They are swamped with cats and kittens needing a "fur-ever" home. But the path to their door marked " adoptions" is nowhere near as well- trodden as the path used by those leaving cats amd kittens there.  Cats can become pregnant as young as four months old. Please, for your kitty's wellbeing, get her "fixed" so you aren't adding to the hordes of unwanted kittens.
 Share this content via...
