aliceBB   10 #37 Posted January 31, 2015 I thought it was spot on personally.   .....Me too!  ---------- Post added 31-01-2015 at 22:00 ----------  I was looking for an example of how she brought people together and made Btitain great  But she didn't. She drove a big axe through society and reduced many sections of the population to absolute desperation, mainly out of spite. Plain Talker   11 #38 Posted January 31, 2015 What utter meaningless tripe!  I thought it was spot on personally. ---------- Post added 31-01-2015 at 19:51 ----------   Yes this is all the more surprising since the Tories on here were very vocal about Labour in Rotherham. Now their heroine is implicated, people get accused of speaking ill of the dead  I thnk so too. And I agree totally with the last section of the quote. I think she did stuff that clearly didn't go down well with great swathes of the population probably because she thought she knew best. I'm not sure it was something as petty as spite. But still, 13 years of a labour government really helped the people she had affected in the pit villages etc. Didn't it?
 Share this content via...

Mr Bloom   10 #44 Posted February 2, 2015 So....a couple of posters still willing to reaffirm their admiration of her, even on hearing this latest news. An interesting set of values, there.  Whilst others are more interested in attacking socialism, rather than answering the question, which leads me to conclude that their image of the 'Iron Lady' has perhaps been tainted at least a little by this. Or, at the very least, they have reached the conclusion that her actions were indefensible.
 Share this content via...
Mister M   1,625 #45 Posted February 2, 2015 (edited) So....a couple of posters still willing to reaffirm their admiration of her, even on hearing this latest news. Yes it is interesting that in 1979, Mrs Thatcher built her campaign around protecting the family unit. Also throughout the 1970s there were articles published in right wing newspapers about the threat of trendy idealists wanting to kill off the nuclear family & a ressurgence of the New Right would bring back the moral fibre of the nation. Leading members of the New Right were Rhodes Boyson and Keith Joseph. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/two-tory-ministers-were-named-3885736 How ironic  EDIT: If the boot was on the other foot, and it was leading intellectuals who had promulagated Socialism, like Boyson and Joseph had been spearheading Thatcherism, the right wing press and their supporters on here would be full of it about how there was a 'moral decay' at the heart of their beliefs. But because it's the Thatcherites that are under scrutiny, not a whimper  EDIT EDIT: Margaret Thatcher, Child Snatcher.
