Capping off Gas Fire

Recommended Posts

This is a Question for a Gas Safe engineer. We have a gas fire with a back boiler. We have now had a new combi boiler fitted by British Gas, they have left the old back boiler and gas fire on the wall because we didn't want to spoil the look as its a cornish slate wall. We asked British Gas to Leave gas to the gas fire so we could still use it but they said NO. Could you please tell me why we can't have the Gas fire as before but all the boiler is capped off.

Could it really be done and within regulations. If so some one has got a job to do it for me.

cant understand why they capped the fire off - if its flued via a flue liner it should be fine, unless of course they tested it and deemed it to be unsafe ie leaking or failing a spillage test, or incorrect burner/working pressure

This should be do-able as long as the gas and electric supplies are capped off/isolated and the fire and flue pass all the required safety tests. Some manufacturers require the burner to be removed as well.
