When: 18th Febuary (7.30pm onwards) Where: West st ale house (52-54 West St, Sheffield S1 4EP) We ask that you contribute at least £3 to cover the event: (we need beer money!) Line up: MESON 7.30pm - 8.00pm: Meson are a group of improvising musicians under the misguidance of Bo Meson who fails to impose vocalised disorder. Our music is improvised, setting the scene for Bo's thoughtful(?) words,, A meson is (of course) a boson consisting of a quark and an anti-quark with a strong nuclear interaction Meson is a floating collective that has consisted of, at times:- Andy McAuley (guitar/noises), Angelina Morelos (sitar), Ashley Tuck (percussion), Bo Meson (vox/noises), Ceri Ashton (flute/viola), Chris Bywater (electronica), Chris McMahon (bass/keys/percussion), Crying Eagle (guitar), frostlake (vocals), Ian Garth (guitar), Jaqui Stoppani (samples/vox), Jez Creek (electronica), Katie Lee (percussion), Kimi Sears (bass, saxophone), Kozmik Andy (bass druidics), Lynne Beckett (keys), Mark Hadman (vox/noises), Martin Archer (saxaphone/loops/flute/keys), Michael McMillan (guitar), Michael Somerset (saxophone/electronix/flute), Nick Robinson (guitar/loops), Peter Fairclough (percussion), Peter Rophone (guitar/noises), Rob Tarana (violin/percussion/vox), Roddy McMillan (guitar/vox), Sarah Palmer (cello), Terry Todd (bass) & Wolfgang Seel (Lieder). TREEBEARD 9.00pm - 10.00pm: Treebeard have been a popular attraction on the pub, festival & beer festival circuit for many years now, with regular appearances at Sheffield, Derby, Tamworth, Newark, Stockport, Lincoln, Stoke & Barnsley festivals, as well as performing at Earls Court for the Great British Beer Festival, and at the Cropredy fringe. The band play lively Irish, folk, rock and pop, traditional, original & contemporary songs & tunes on a variety of acoustic instruments, always guaranteed to get an audience up & dancing. They describe their style as 'Heavy Wood', releasing a first CD of that name in 2002, and a second CD 'Reel Ale’ in 2010. Their track ‘Train’ is also featured on the ‘Forged in Sheffield’ folk compilation CD, and video for 'Over The Hills' has won the runner up prize in the 2 weeks 2 make it filmmaking competition 2011, as well as attracting over 180,000 youtube views. The band have been through a number of line-up changes over the years and are currently led by founder member Chris McMahon (of Haze, Strongheart, Silverwheel, Outlandish Knights, etc), with long time flautist/fiddler Ceri Ashton (Cadellin, Mother of Crows, Jabberwocky, Outlandish Knights), and new members; in demand percussionist James Howe (Bellhagg Orkestar, Silver Darlings), talented singer/songwritier Rob Lowdon (Jabberwocky, Broadsword) and fabulous singer/guitarist Paul Pearson.
