We saw some House Martins at Damflask today so it won't be long before I see my first Swallow of 2014.

Not seen any yet and I always look out for them. But I haven't been in the countryside for a while.

Plenty of chiffchaffs about.

According to Sheffield Bird Study Group a swallow was seen at Canklow Woods today.

We saw a couple of Great Crested Grebes up at the flask today as well, we watched them from Lamb Hill down towards Lower Bradfield.

It's a bit early but the weather forecast says we are due high pressure next week, so maybe the first sightings

Not seen a swallow yet but saw a bunch of house martins (I think) at Broomhead on Saturday.

Not seasonal but I also saw a goldfinch on Penistone road the other day, never seen one before and it was a surprise to see it at the side of the road

We get them on the niger seed feeders in my garden. They quite like verges, scrub and wasteland because of the thistle seeds etc. The first goldfinches I ever saw used to frequent some birch scrub on a colliery in Salford!

Charming birds ;)
