Why do people object to Call to Prayer?

Recommended Posts

Islam is not part of our culture, its an import. Its free to operate within the confines of our law and society, but to broadcast the call the prayer is wrong in my opinion and will cause people to resent Islam even more.

I assume this is not something being called for by the majority of Muslims either, but more a tiny minority that enjoys berating the majority none Muslim population helped by do gooders who have nothing better to do.

It's a none story.

In the link, it appears that the University invited the Muslim groups (who already have Friday payers within the building) to add the call to prayer. The Muslim groups hadn't asked for this. It is this that has caused the furore. As a result, the university has back-tracked. This has now offended the Muslim groups involved as they believe they are being treated as second class citizens. The University has a strong inclusive drive (which is probably why the muslims had been invited to add their call to prayer in the first place), but when push came to shove, they backed down. Everything had been ticking along OK until some people in the University tried to improve things. There is the added nuance that this church appears to be part of the University, not just a church that happens to be in the University grounds.

Edit. It isn't actually about the noise associated with the call to prayer.

Why do they have to be called to prayer? They know they have to go and at what time.

Perhaps they're not wearing a watch?

It's because it is a religion stuck in the middle ages before alarm clocks, watches and iphones

It's like when your mum used to shout you in because your tea was ready.

The bells sound appealing (no pun) the awful call to prayer sounds, well awful and alien

When we were children and unable to think properly for ourselves and had to be led by an intelligent adult? Hmmm

Church bells don't normally call people to church. Church's near to me don't sound anything.

This is why people were called to worship because telling the time wasn't an exact science hundreds of years ago but now everybody has a watch, the call to prayer is or should be redundant.

Does show that this is not a religious issue, but rather a cultural one and Islam is not of our culture. This is why people will disagree with it.
