2nd hand car prices 1966

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me how much a 2nd hand car would have cost in 1966. I'm referring to a 1961 Morris Oxford Estate - (NOT Traveller) or similar.

My Dad bought a 1962 Ford Classic from a dealer for £250 in December 1966. I would imagine that a 1961 Morris Oxford Estate would be about £300 in 1966.

If I remember rightly, a Ford Classic cost just over £800 when new in 1962. Unfortunately the Classic did not have good reputation & consequently suffered from more than average depreciation, hence the £250 price tag in 1966. I would say that my previous estimate for the 1961 Morris Oxford Estate price in 1966 was too low. Probably more like £350.

I bought a new mini in 1966 for I think something like £550-00.The Oxford in the link was the later one I think because the earlier one had a rounded nose and boot.I think the Oxford in the link is the later one.I think this is the earlier one.https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=morris+oxfords&client=opera&hs=hnf&tbm=isch&imgil=aDoDRhtpP19OSM%253A%253B-_4ghwHcKHjz3M%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.simoncars.co.uk%25252Fmorris%25252Foxford234.html&source=iu&pf=m&fir=aDoDRhtpP19OSM%253A%252C-_4ghwHcKHjz3M%252C_&usg=__5owNAzkmtRSFUZS71qR91EBX1jY%3D&biw=1344&bih=734&ved=0CDMQyjc&ei=PW29VLSLJqXD7gbSq4G4DA#imgdii=_&imgrc=aDoDRhtpP19OSM%253A%3B-_4ghwHcKHjz3M%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.simoncars.co.uk%252Fmorris%252Fslides%252FMorris%252520Oxford%252520Series%252520II%252520front.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.simoncars.co.uk%252Fmorris%252Foxford234.html%3B1054%3B719

I bought a brand new VW beetle from Gordon Lanbs Chesterfield for £554 in 1964,I was torn between that and a Triumph Spitfire virtually the same price!.When I paid for it it left me virtually skint waiting for the following weeks paypacket, the first week I had it driving on Middlewood Road I ran over a piece of steel ripping the tyre in half, not having the money to replace it,a bit of bad luck to start with but I had the car for 8 years selling it for £250 and buying another beetle new by then costing £1054 from Gilders!.
