kivo   10 #1 Posted May 18, 2016 Bit of an odd one this.  I'm currently researching the history of Atlas & Norfolk Football Club, who my uncle played for in the early 1960s.  I have records for them up to 1963, when I presume they folded.  They were a part of the larger Atlas & Norfolk Sports Club, which had sections including cricket, snooker, rugby etc...  Does anyone have any idea when/why/how the club came to its end?  I have found records for the cricket club in the Yorkshire Council in 1963 but not 1964 so I presume the entire sports club must have foundered in 1963? johnpm   18 #3 Posted May 19, 2016 My dad played football for Atlas & Norfolk team in the Yorkshire League I think as goalkeeper in the 1930's & after the war. I understand Atlas & Norfolk was a combined sports club for Firth Vickers Stainless Steels (where dad worked) & Firth Brown's. Voldy   10 #4 Posted May 29, 2016 If it helps, the 1987 Sheffield Cricket League Handbook has this entry for Atlas & Norfolk (1938 year of joining)- renamed Firth Brown S & SC in 1964; renamed Atlas S & SC in 1976; amalgamated with BSC (River Don) [previously ESC from 1940 to 1974] in 1984 and renamed Forgemasters S & SC. kivo   10 #5 Posted May 30, 2016 That does help, thank you!  Was that entry for Forgemasters?  Does anyone know if Forgemasters are still going/when they became defunct?
 Share this content via...

kivo   10 #7 Posted May 30, 2016 The A&N sports ground used to be off Shirecliffe Road, is it still there and in use ?  Sheffield United bought it in 2002 to build their training ground, which leads me to believe the old A&N/Forgemasters Sports club must have disbanded between 1991 (the last year their football team played in the County Senior League) and 2002.
