Possible radiator leak inside wall - what kind of tradesman?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have what looks a bit like salts forming on the wall by a radiator pipe. The paint has also extensively flaked off there. So I am wondering if this might be damp caused by a leak in the radiator pipe (internally in the wall - I cannot find any evidence of leaks outside the wall from the radiator). I'm not sure who I would get to look at this though - a plumber, builder or some kind of damp specialist?

Thanks!

If you have a leak from the radiator then the pressure will drop in your heating system. A plumber would be able to confirm this if you don't know how to do it yourself. Usually there's a pressure gauge on your boiler though. If this stays constant then you don't have a leak (you'd have to check over several days)

If you don't have a leak then you'll need a damp specialist.

Unless of course your heating system is fed from tanks in the loft/airing cupboard, in which case, the leak (if it is a leak) will be constant

The suspect radiator is on ground floor, boiler tank is on the middle floor in an airing cupboard.
