Acid attacks on the increase

Two teenagers have been arrested after acid was thrown in people's faces in five attacks over one night in London.

It is apparently quite legal to sell acid that does this type of damage, but illegal to sell certain drugs that is intended for their health benefits or enjoyment.

How can the authorities get the law right?

Its apparently gangs that are responsible for this latest increase in acid crime.

they were on motor scooters attacking rival gang members on scooters from what I've discerned.

This IS an horrific crime. We have to ensure that there is a big enough deterrent to stop this. Unlike the pathetic attitude of the authorities for those carrying knives.

Put them through it. Then treat them medically. Finish by banging them in, minimum 10 years without parole. And if they have injured someone bad enough to be life-changing injuries, then lifetime attachment of earnings, non-appealable.

It is already possible to be jailed for life for the most serious GBH offence. Judges need to be instructed to use those sentencing powers for these kinds of attacks.

Indeed. No money for prisons should be no excuse because if the deterrent is long enough, I believe there would not be so many risking prison anyway.

Most acid attacks are male-on-male acts of violence and are usually associated with the drugs trade.

The criminologist on Sky News was saying unless you're willing to examine the underlying demand for violence no amount of legislation will change the outcome. Make acid harder to acquire and suddenly scolding water becomes a weapon of choice.

Most dealers will tell you they fear the violence of rival drug gangs when there are disputes over payment/territory. The police are nothing more than operational hazard.

It's disgusting how slow the government are to respond to things like this.

I remember hearing about this phenomena in the 90s in regard to Jamaican Yardies..

Seems the govt will have to ban such substances ... some how. but when the attackers are using drain cleaners and stuff such as nitromors I doubt it would be undertaken by the govt for commerce reasons..
