love_rat   10 #1 Posted December 27, 2011 There was a time when a joust with the beasts in the countryside was viewed as English as apple pie and custard.  Do these events still take place - where the beast (sometimes a fox) pits its wits and mastery of the surroundings, and put all it has into a contest against dozens of humans on horseback and 100s of dogs?  Does the beast still miss this winter tradition ? Rupert_Baehr   10 #5 Posted December 27, 2011 I hunt all year round. Caught 4 rats during the past week. (My attic should be a bit quieter now.)  Now I've got to find a solution to the squirrel problem. - Particularly the (not so) little bugger who decided that my back porch is more of a 'des res' than one of the trees in the garden - and who made his own entranceway through the bug screen. xenia   11 #6 Posted December 28, 2011 I find that if you get em between the ear and eye with a decent air rifle they go quick, they twitch a bit but they go.
 Share this content via...

That must be quite an exceptional hunt to have '100s' of dogs.
 Share this content via...

wednesday1   10 #10 Posted December 28, 2011 I think boxing day hunts are traditional   They're illegal now thankfully, unless the dogs are follwing a scent.
 Share this content via...
Conrod   10 #11 Posted December 28, 2011 Smarmy Dave Cameron used to go out hunting with these charmers:  Not sure if he still does. I'm more bothered by the interfering idots who try to get in the way of the hunts. It's a great shame trespassers can't be shot.
