Tommo68 Â Â 10 #25 Posted May 12, 2014 I would advocate accessing more than one source of information if you have reason to think that your first choice may be biased. Â Do not be surprised if a media source runs an article or story that seems to be biased against its normal trend. This I'm sure this only done to give the impression that the source in question is taking an overall unbiased or neutral stance in general, even though in some cases it clearly does usually have a political slant. Â BBC TV news is often suspected of toeing the government line whilst Radio 4's news and programmes often appear to be taking a left wing or 'liberal' view. It has even been known to 'dispense with the services' of some of its presenters that have strayed from the 'party line' even though what they said or reported on was accurate. Â If one is expecting the news to be presented factually and without bias I have no idea where one might look other than perhaps wikipedia as it is in a sense moderated by its contibutors, unlike most other sources of information. Â As has been mentioned already some slants on the news (or other programmes) are simply taken to sensationalise and are not necessarily slanted with a particular political motive. Â The media has been known to try and convict people who have not been, and may well never be, charged by the cps. A typical example of this is Jimmy Saville. Although he is dead and can not be brought to trial he has been labelled a pedophile and it is generally accepted by the public, myself included, that he was a pedophile but has had no formal trial. Were it not for the media we would probably all still think he was just another flamboyant but crap but otherwise harmless dj. Â There appears to be some deception carried out by the mainstream media at times. Particularly by not presenting all the known facts if they contradict the message they are trying to put across or by deliberately selecting their presenters, panel members, studio audiences and / or venues so that the public appears to be agreeing with and supporting the presenter or panel. . . Zamo   10 #26 Posted May 12, 2014 The questions weren't asked by the Independent - they were asked by the polling organisation Ipsos Mori, who were commissioned by the Royal Statistical Society and Kings College.  True but the Independent still provde their own bias and independence by printing a story highlighting misinformation that might lead people to vote UKIP or Tory whilst ignoring misinformation that helps holds up support for Labour. They are happy for misinformation to be out there when it suits their politics.
 Share this content via...

Lex Luthor   10 #29 Posted May 24, 2016 On a similar note, my deepest sympathies go out to the families of the victims of the MS804 Egyptair flight. It is absolutely disgusting that one report is being reported in the press, only to be denied by another official, on a daily basis now. As if the families need any more upset like this after such a harrowing event.  It's time for greater regulation not only in the UK but across the world and an end to deliberate misinformation in the media to promote political agendas. Those that are responsible should be held accountable.
 Share this content via...
