The Brownlee brothers

Recommended Posts

I had never really followed anything about the triathlon, in fact, I don't think I ever knew anybody competing in it until I heard of these two scrawny kids from 't Uddersfield.

I have to say: They have been hugely entertaining and I really like the spectacle and diversity the triathlon offers. This early afternoon I had the relay-triathlon on in the background and seeing Jonnie racing away at pace, running a mile like it was a 100 meter sprint was amazing and then to see Alastair just gain time like he had no competition at all (which he didn't have I suppose) was amazing.

The individual event was great as well, although I only saw highlights of that. These two kids deserve a lot of recognition for what they do!

I missed it, much check it out on iPlayer! But yes, they're inspirational and a pleasure to watch.

Just seen the men's marathon finish, awesome performance by Mike Shelly (AUS) to win with a PB time. He seemed to come out of nowhere and dominate the last 5k or so.

In the Olympics in 2012 Jonny and Alastair (and many of the other competitors in the triathlon) ran 10,000 in less than a minute longer than Mo Farah took to win the 10k on the track, but they had done the swim and the bike ride first.

One of my sister's friends used to work with the Brownlee brothers, and he once tried to follow their example of running to work every morning and home again every night. He lasted 3 days before deciding that he wasn't made of the same stuff as they are :)

Wow, I knew they were pretty quick, but didn't realise it was that close to specialists! There has been speculation at some point that they might join TeamSky for road races as well, although I think that was indeed merely speculation on behalf of some hopeful Yorkshiremen jealous of all the Lancastrian successes :)

I worked out fanatically for a few years, for me it was the gym, weightlifting, cardio, long distance cycling and swimming, but I have to say even back then, and we are talking 15 or so years ago, my average bike speed was below 30 km/h on distances between 40-60k and I could swim about 2K without having all my muscles yell at me in agony. I couldn't possibly dream of swimming 1,5K, biking 40K and THEN running 10K... doing one of them was more than enough to tire me out.

Fortunately these days I have grown wise and I don't do any of this stuff anymore, knowing I am rubbish!

Never saw this but I guess it would be typical Sir Dave Brailsford PR & mischief making.

Think about it - a minute in a 10k track race is the best part of lap.

Typically, the BBC will have moved onto the next race by then.

Assuming same differential in cycling, they would never be team leaders - just domestiques, to be burnt off and used along the way. And pretty sure they wouldn't have gone for that...

Plus its a different kind of cycling with more chances of a serious crash.

They are what they are - world class triathletes.

Tim,

The Brownlee brothers are from Yorkshire mate, born in Dewsbury nowhere near that horrible county you mention.

That is exactly why I mention it pal ;) I am not sure whether it was hopeful speculation!

I don't even think it came from Brailsford pal, I genuinely think it was some lose speculation on another forum I visit.

I've never been interested in the triathlon, but watched it all the other day these two are in a different league, Alistair even waited till Johnny came into view then walked the last 30m over the line.

Just like to correct you Bypassblade , ( both ) the Brownlee brothers were not born in

Dewsbury . Only Alistair was born in Dewsbury. Jonathan was born a half / marathon

distance away precisely 13 and 1/2 miles away at a place called Bramhope. Owl.
