try ebay or autotrader websites for a similar spec car to find the going rate

would have thought that's a lot for an escort though.. they stopped making them years ago

If it's one of the very last ones, I would say its very expensive. You can pay an extra grand or so and get a brand new Ka or something similar which may be cheaper on insurance, such as a little Daewoo.
